BEER BOWLING BASH !!

Hey CHIEF's,

First, I would like to say a big thank you to all who attended Steve Hawkin's breakfast last Sunday. The kitty made 160 000 won. All food was donated by Steve. From Chiefs to Chief, THANK YOU Steve. I was not able to attend but heard only great things. I did hear that it was a bit cramped and that you had to wait in line to use the washrooms, but hey, take what you can get eh...Or was it that you sat in the YARD all day and drooled at the ambassadors' houses all around. haha

Now on to the next event. BOWLING! Saturday at 4pm, at the Hanam Bowling Lanes. ( Hangangin Station, Exit2 walking away from RMT. Follow the sidewalk and walk over the overpass towards the Harley Davidson store. Take the ramp to the right off the overpass and walk to the Hanam supermarket. Under the supermarket are the lanes. Look for the big bowling pin.)

After bowling, we're off to Gangnam for eats at Mapo Galbi. The team with the most combined fallen pins at the end will eat for free* After eats and a few bottles of the "green lady", we'll make our way up to Woodstock (next building over,2F)

How does that sound!?? There is no hockey Sunday morning, so no excuses there! You don't have to sign up, but it would be nice to know how many are coming. Bring your significant other too!Please leave a note here.

This Sunday, February 18th is game day for your RMT Chiefs. We will be facing our old' nemesis , the a-holes from Incheon.


Following the game, Steve and his BETTER half (emphasis on better) is inviting everyone on the Chiefs for breakfast at his shack out in the middle of nowhere. Well, it's not really a shack and it's not really in the middle of nowhere but the breakfast is real. If you play hockey with the chiefs on Wednesdays or Sundays you are invited. Basically if you're a Chief then come on over to Steve's Bar and Grill for some home cooked breakfast.

NHL Still All Tied Up

Since the NHL's inception in 1917, its taken 90 years but in a collectivefit of logic, We (and/or people inside the NHL with IQ's above roomtemperature) finally bellowed, "No more boring ties!" Big kudos to the newNHL for taking action. To most hockey fans, the shootout is a gem andproof-in-the-pudding of the exhilarating crusade to make the NHL the best itcan be. So Ding-dong, the witch is dead. Good riddance to the ugly,anti-climactic NHL tie. Or is it?
Until teams can no longer go into thelocker room and say, "Well, at least we got a point out of it." , the answerhas to be no. With more than two-thirds of the regular season gone andonly 8 points seperating 4th place from 11th in the Eastern Conference,those precious points earned have not been resolved by the shootout.
In its noble quest, the new winner-in-every-game NHL hasn't eliminated the tie. Notice how a team at 25-25-6 looks suspiciously like one with six tiesused to. Shouldn't that now be 26-31? Have they not LOST thirty-one games?But wait! There's more [logic] ! Second place San Jose currently has 35wins and first place Anaheim 33. The Ducks have three more points in thestandings. So now, the end-of-regulation charity point for being tied notonly encourages and rewards mediocrity like the tie used to, but creates adouble-whammy that can inadvertantly punish teams who win games inregulation.
The NHL needs to take action for next season. They can reward the loftieraccomplishment of a regulation win with three points and leave theOT/shootout structure as it is. But in the spirit of integrity andsimplicity, a campaign to truly eliminate a tie is best acomplished when ateam leaves the ice with nothing if they don't win the game. Win the game,two points. Lose the game, zero points. Why? Because it's good for the game.Top-4 professional sports league can't have a winner and a kind of, sort ofloser. It needs a winner and loser. And by the way, think OT and shootoutsare good now? Watch what happens to the intensity when it's all or nothing.......What do you think?

If you've answered yes to at least one, then you should join! Saturday February 24th, will start with an afternoon of Bowling at the Hanam Bowling Lanes.(a 5 minute walk from Hangangjin Station line number 6) This basement bowling lane allows drinks in as long as we "behave" ourselves and are tidy. There is a quality grocer on the 1st floor that has many imported beer and drinks to fulfill your needs.
After a few strikes,spares, turkeys and beer, we'll make our way to a restaurant yet to be named. Nothing works up an appetite like taking three steps and lunging a ball down a floor shinier than your mother's silverware !!
Phase three of the "super bowl Saturday" will see the "weak" drop off and the "strong" louder and more confident. The survivors will then go on to a bar that the drunken bowlers decide will fit their needs.

We should be getting our February ice times on Wednesday. Hopefully we'll be getting a fair share of ice times but with the Group B tournament and the skating camps being held in February we'll be lucky if we can secure all our Wednesdays and/or Sundays. Cross your laces.

Seoul Bowl Result: Chiefs 38 Geckos 20

Well sports fan after hearing about the Seoul Bowl for the past two weeks the big day finally came. The Gecko's Glaciers met the RMT Chiefs at Yongsan's South Post for what was to be history in the making. With the 1st 2-4 of Samuel Adams provided by Chief/Glacier Clay the game got underway. From the start the Chiefs played the game simple. Throw the ball and catch it. Keeping with our motto of course. We dominated the Glaciers from the kickoff with our very own Marc "Speedy Gonazalez" rushing Clark every chance he had.

I'm sure Clark was very much annoyed as he was sacked quite a few times over the period of 2 hours. Gecko's threw everything they had against the Chiefs offense and defensive lines but we held strong due to some good interceptions, passes and kicks. John Morris (pictured above with a beer in his hand) kept the team motivated while Tall Paul (pictured behind Clark) made some of the best catches i've seen in a while. We even invented a play after him called the Statue of Paul.

We can credit this play to Frasier. In the dying minutes of the game, all of the offensive line rushed into the end zone and made a circle around Paul to block out any defensive move to hit the ball away from him. It worked with great sucess. All the Glacier's shook their heads in amazement at is natural athletic ability!! ha ha.. Not that it took much, throw the ball at Paul's head and it's higher than any one person could jump!. All and all the game was clean and a lot of fun. No sore losers which is how any game should be played.

Mongolian food and beers were shared after the game (as was another case of Samuel Adam's at halftime) at the Navy Club on base. Many thanks to Clark and Clay without whom the game wouldn't have taken place. For those who want to see the trophy it's currently being displayed at the RMT.

Yet another game

How do you say? GAME?

Since all we've done this month is play games on Sundays, we thought it appropriate to continue this nouvelle tradition and hold yet another game on this coming Sunday. So for the fourth Sunday in a row, the Chiefs will be playing the Leafs. The starting time for this unbelievably extraordinary mind-boggling event will be 9 in the morning. This will go-on 'till 11:30am; that's right 2 and half hours.

Already committed to the skate are
D the Big, J to the M, Trevor the Bone, Karl the Seabass, Paul the Tall, Ryan the Bull in a China Shop, Grigory the Great, Gabe the Doc, Corey the Scrawny, Jarri Kurri, Mark the Spark, Marc the New American and YOU!! that's right one last spot available.

In nets we have Terry the Glove at one end and Claude the French at the other.


A note for this game. There is one spot remaining. If that spots fills up and everyone who signed up for this game is there on Sunday then whoever shows up unannounced on Sunday will not be playing. Now that being said, if the roster fills up and someone doesn't show-up on Sunday and someone is there ready to play then by all means...

Battle of the Goalies

Good evening my fellow chiefs. Big D here with another report on our game from today. Again the Chiefs took to the ice for Game #3 as what has become a friendly rivalry between the RMT Chiefs and the Seoul Maple Leafs. There were a lot of bleary looking eyes at 7 o'clock in the morning and for good reason of course. Karl, the team's main motivator(and curser) decided to text everyone he knew at 6 o'clock in the morning to make sure everyone was up and ready to rumble. Needless to say he's still alive so he didn't wake anybody up.

Onto the game, with no goalies to speak of our very own T-bone" Look at me mom" decided to strap on the pads to face off against Seabass "I accept any challenge. Visions of the great Canadian goalies of past times were dancing through their heads as they made their way to their respective nets. Those dreams vanished quickly once the puck dropped. The game itself was a very slow moving game and Karl managed to keep a shut out for half an hour (might be a record for a non goalie playing for the chiefs) meanwhile T-bone had a little trouble on the other end but both goalies faired well in what Jari Kurri aka Steve Hawkins described as the "Shittiest chiefs hockey he's seen in a while." Well put Jari I mean Steve. He made his point by ripping one off the crossbar (from the blue line) and almost hitting me in the head with another shot.

After that comment the bench came to life and Ryan Casavant scored two goals with myself adding one and others contributing to the game score ( please post if you scored a goal) Grigory scored one at the first without a goalie in the net and Dave also shot one in. There was a bit of a mix up late in the game when the puck went in (high and inside the post) but wasn't called. T-bone called it a goal but of course would never mention it to the referee who for some reason, thought that the puck hit the post (kinda funny how it never made a sound). Our objections (or I should say my objections) fell on deaf ears. What a guy wouldn't do for video replay.

We won the game by a score of 5-3. It wasn't the best hockey I've seen in my time and it could certainly get better. But I'd like to mention again the stellar play of our goalies. No one force them to into the nets and they did a good job. For those who missed it, after the post game meal at Hyundai, some hard core Chiefs (Seabass, Ryan,Corey and myself) decided to head to the GS25 in Dangsan to have some beers. Nothing like drinking cold beer outside in wintertime while talking about hockey. Only in Korea... Next Sunday will be the final game in our month long series with the Leafs. . We need a lot of people. They've been coming out with 3-4 lines every game (even at 7 am) and we've only been managing two. So get out the skates and come play some hockey LET'S MAKE IT A CLEAN SWEEP.

If things pop up then let the team know before game day (it's understandable if things arise that are unplanned for). Please don't put your name down and don't come without letting the team know beforehand. It leaves the team hanging and makes it harder for those who do make an effort to come out and play (especially at 7am) .

A message from your captain

Hello Chiefs,
Happy New Year. It's been a while since I've sat at the computer and fired off a Chief's email. My jet lag is all gone and I have a few minutes between wedding plans, so here we go.

NEWS
In Chiefs news we've played the Seoul Maple Leafs two weekends in a row and have had, in Borat's words, "Great success!" We play them again this Sunday at an astonishing 7am. We've got most of our last team interested in it, but if you want to play let us know.

We were not supposed to have an ice time this Sunday, but they asked us to join theirs' so, no complaints on the time. Early hockey is better than no hockey!!!

MONGOLIA
There is the Ullan Batarr, Mongolian hockey tournament next month. We have sent a team for the past two years and it would be great to keep that chilly tradition alive. It is a very fun,well run outdoor tournament in a country that takes nothing but vodka for granted. It is truly a country and tournament to be seen. The flight
leaves Wednesday,February 14th and you would return Monday, February 19th. I flew,drank, ate, played and shopped all I could for 1mill. You could too!

SINGAPORE
In March, we have got enough to hit up our first tournament in Singapore! Flight leaving Feb 28th and returning March 4th. This is a 4 on 4 tourney and looks to be a good time. Those who are going,you must have a Chiefs jersey and Terry needs your money this week. It's time to try and "score in the pore"! Singapore!! This tourney also sees the Chief's founder return to the team. Kyle "the Hawk" Hawkins
will be on the roster. Watch out ! Baaa kaaaaaa!!

WEDNESDAYS AND GAMES
We continue to have Wednesday evening pick up and look forward to good attendance. If you want in our games, attendance is important. This Wednesday is a 2 hour slot from 9-11pm. Be there! There tends to be a bit of buzzz about leagues and new tourneys in Korea, having skaters come out on a regular basis is so necessary if
this is to ever happen.

MONEY MONEY MONEY
There are still some who owe the kitty (now in an embryo tic state)money for jerseys. I realise I was away and I may have your jersey. Well I'm back and can give you your jersey, if you give me some won.

The Seoul Bowl: Gecko's vs. Chiefs!!

It looks like the Gecko's have decided to try their luck off the ice against the chiefs. Clark Webster has put out an e-mail (for those who didn't get it) wanting to know who from the chiefs would be interested in forming a team. It's on Yongsan base Saturday January 27^th at 2:00pm so you'll need to e-mail him (mewebby@hotmail.com) and give him:

1. Country of Origin
2. Passport #
3. Full Name

He needs that info so you can be signed onto the base.. The teams are capped at 14 no more after that.It's flag football with a referee. Eats/drinks at the Navy Club(which has a microbrewery) after the game. No word yet on if we're playing with Canadian or American rules. If you're interested e-mail him. This should prove interesting and fun so let's get a good squad together and play some football!

All teams are finding it difficult to book ice times this month. As we previously mentioned in past posts, we asked the rink if anyone wanted to hook up for a game. The deal was that they would host us on one of their ice times and we would host them on one of ours. When we talked to the rink we said that we would host our game NEXT month but I believe that this tiny point was lost in translation. I just received a call from the Maple Leafs and they are looking to play this weekend at 8:00am.

So it's the same thing as last time

We need a bunch of players and TWO goalies (not sure who would like to come this week but I'm hoping Terry and Claude hook it up again)

So first come first served....who is in???

and don't forget, we don't need to stack it up.

Chiefs vs. Leafs

This past Sunday, the Chiefs prepared to do battle against the leafs. Karl's 1st observation about the team once he got to the dressing room was "They're not wearing Maple Leafs and they're different guys" Great points of wisdom from our assistant captain. That being said, the game was a good clean game with only penalty going to yours truly for tripping. I could've said that ref needed glasses but he was wearing glasses so my argument was thrown out the window.

The Leafs or whatever their team name was started off with Claude in net and the Chiefs started off with Terry "The Glove". Both played excellent, Claude returning to old form and Terry stopping breakaways left, right and center. The Chiefs were 1st on the board with a goal from who else but Geddes, he would go on to add 1 more I think. In total we scored about 7 goals (maybe more) and they scored about 3... Overall the game was quick and with the addition of two kids the roughness and language were kept off the ice and it was a good game. We're hoping to get games against teams like these more often so everyone will have an opportunity to play who didnt' get to play against this team. We just ask that if you have a temper to leave it at home. Most of us know how some Koreans tend to play, but that's the way they play so please just accept it and have fun.

In other news, T-Bone will have a big annoucement to make soon. So, make sure you come out for Wednesday's hockey and you'll see what the big announcement will be. That's it hockey fans, hope to see you out on the ice soon!

URGENT MESSAGE to ALL CHIEFS!!!!

Game!! Game!! Game!!

Last week when we were getting our ice times I asked if any teams out in Mok-Dong Land would like to play against us this month. Well the Seoul Maple Leafs have answered our calls and we are now booked for a game for this coming Sunday, January 7th between 10:00am and 12:00pm

The Seoul Maple Leafs are a Korean team based out of Mok-Dong but they also play some games out in Korea University. We have some history with them that dates back to the first few months of the Chiefs' existence. They are the first team the Chiefs played an organized game against. They are also the first team the Chiefs won against (albeit it took a few tries). They are also the first and only team the Chiefs ever had a fight against (hopefully that won’t happen)

So the roster is open and there are still a few spots to fill. Post if you want to play!! you have two days!!

Chiefs Back in Action.

After a long hard December, the Chiefs Kitty was on thin ice. But, with the new year ahead we had a good reason to look ahead to 2007. Wednesday's game was a sign that we're back on track. After a sluggish turn out all throughout December the 1st game of '07 was full of eager players wanting to go hit some pucks around. The blues and the whites both had full benches with an extra line to spare. Wednesday marked the appearance of Claude (for me anyways) back to the chiefs (that gives us 5 goalies) and some other faces that have been MIA due to holidays. Fraser showed up with a new hairstyle to celebrate the year of the pig. Frankly, I think he needs a new barber, the white bench spent most of the game talking about what kind of haircut it was. Jamie Cotton thought it was some sort of a BC mullet and Clark thought it was something else while the rest of the white bench just shook their heads in amazement. I thought he looked like Jagr Junior( the jury is still out on that one).

Wednesday's game was action packed with end to end rushes and some defensive flair. With Jamie back from holiday with his mom and sister in tow all the way from Cape Breton NS and Tommy in between the pipes on the other end the game was full of good saves. We had about 4 or 5 Korean players who kept the pace up to then end ( much to the dismay of the players who haven't been out for a while) but a good time was held by all. As for the goal scorers their were too many to count, Cotton had a few, same with the Korean players and I even think Frasier managed to get a goal (the white's defence kept looking at his hair). There was a bit of a hard moment when the "Swedish flash" aka Kim decided to show everyone what a powerful slapshot he has but it ended up hitting Clark in the back. Clarkie was ok though, no damage done, i'm sure he'll be ok. I hope everyone will continue to keep coming out now that most of our holidays are over. Our ice times are slightly limited this month but, that shouldn't stop anyone from coming out and enjoying a good skate. Hopefully the year of the pig treats everyone ok.

RMT will be showing World Jr's Friday and Saturday. Canada vs our other archnemesis those pesky Russians will be shown Saturday at 5pm. Not live though, so stay away from your computer Saturday morning and come out and have some beers. The Americans vs. Sweden will be shown live at Midnight on Friday. Check their website for confirmation.

The Three stars for the game are:
1. Frasier (just because of his weird hair)
2. Cotton- for showing that a Canadian guy can turn you inside out just as much as a Korean can.
3. Jamie- for putting on a good show despite the pressure of his mom watching his every move

Talking of tournaments

There is a tournament happening in Singapore from March 1^st to the 4^th 2007 (that's Thursday to Sunday). Thursday, March 1st is a holiday in Korea so it would require that you take one day off of work.

The tournament will be 4 on 4 hockey. A team of 8 skaters plus a goalie would be enough. I don’t know how competitive it would be but it would be hockey in Singapore.

Nothing is planned as of yet for this is simply a feeler to see how many bites we get. Kyle the Hawk is presently living in Singapore and he said that a cheap place could be found for $30-40/ night. The tournament fees would probably be about 200 000 won each and the airfare is usually about 600 000won.

A note for the coming months.
We will be hard pressed to book our normal ice times in the coming moths because the rink is booked with skating camps and the 'Group B' international hockey tournament. But have no fear we will do our best to hook it up for you. Which brings me to my next point. Let's get some bodies out on the ice!!! It's the same ol' song. Our funds are running dangerously low. The month of December has burned a deep hole in our little black bag. We made a grand total of 40 bucks from the game against Incheon and that was our highest return of any ice time this month. Every one of the December ice times cost the team money.

Chiefs vs. Incheon

It was another hard fought battle out in Mok-Dong Stadium last Sunday. To quickly recap what happened, the Chiefs scored a lot of goals and the Iceholes scored more than a lot of goals. The first star by far and away was Rene who played a heck of a game. Probably his best yet. The second would have to be Aaron for keeping us in the game with his speed. The third and final star goes to Tommy for putting some fire in the second line. All in all , it was a fun game to play and everyone enjoyed themselves out there.

oh and by the way, The Taco Award for the month of December goes to Rene the Dark Masked Goalie. Well done!

Low Numbers Brings Xmas Jeers

It looks like T-bone was right in his previous blog posting about many people exiting the peninsula. This past Sunday, when I arrived at the rink after battling the mightiest snowstorm Seoul has ever seen I was devastated to see I was the only on there. But, "Have No Fear" Tommy soon showed up with a buddy from Inchon in tow. It turns out he's a goalie too! go figure! Whilst Tommy and I waited and started to phone around to see who we could rouse out of bed an extremely hung over Lexi came trodding through the snow with everybody's favourite Swede(until World Jr's start anyways) Kim. Still wondering where all the players were we headed for the dressing room to get ready for our ice tim and Steve Hawkins wonders in all the way from Paris where he was drinking French Wine and learning new French phrases that he could try out on Karl. Speaking of Karl he was captured by the North Koreans on Sunday and accused of being a spy for the South. Now we all know why he lives so close to the DMZ. Good news though, our other beloved assistant captain has confirmed his presence for Sunday. So those that want to hear about his time in NK prison camp come on out this Sunday.

All in all on Sunday we didn't have a good turnout, we had enough for 5 aside with 2 goalies and one sub each.. not fun hockey folks. Tommy's buddy Brad who hadn't played on skates in 5+ years did a stand up job battling Rene for the goalie honour. For those who were who drunk in bed too bad you missed a great goaltending display on the upstairs rink no less..

On Wednesday it was the same story. Tommy and myself were the 1st two to arrive and the first thought through our heads was "not again" but alas it was as if the hockey god's decided not to bless this week. The turnout was even worse than Sundays. The dark team had 4 players and the White team had 4 players with one sub.. again not fun hockey.. but we made due. Clark showed up with two pretty Korean girls on his arms but he didnt' have enough money to keep them throughout the whole game.. too bad..Cole decided to make his official comeback he signed a 4 year deal with the Chiefs worth a lot of money (rumour have it at 2 million a year Korean \ of course).. he's not contending for the #1 goalie spot between Tommy and Rene more on that to come..The goalies were the stars of this game putting up with end to end rushes with not much in the way of defence.. both goalies were solid (just ask Clark) Hockey is at 10am this Sunday! for those who haven't been coming out come on out! we need the players!!!!

Like every December many seek to exit the peninsula, whether it is to a hotter sun or to family back home. For those who can't get a chance to get away, there will be some good skates for you to come out and enjoy. We have Wednesday and Sunday ice, with our monthly Inchon IceHoles game on the 31st at 10 am. Let's leave the 2006 year with a win! It was a great close game last time and should be another good one. We should know this week if there is a Christmas day ice time.

RMT Chiefs Pull out a Big "W"

November 26th, 2006

The Chiefs showed up Sunday morning with a full roster and were hungry for a win. Their competitor, and friends, the "Evil" Inchon IceHoles. Conditions were just right. A 10 am start, let the cobwebs fall and we seemed confident. There were even two back ups (Joakim and Jay) at the rink ready to go, incase of any no shows.
Reff Terry, got the game underway after a good warm up. Through the game there would be a bit of stick work but Terry kept it under control. The game would see the Chiefs go on the board first, but it would be quickly answered by three from Inchon.
The second saw the Chiefs want to win. Later in the 2nd the Chiefs went on and scored 4 goals and the I-Holes netting one more. The 3rd started at a score of 5-4 and would see another quick goal by the fired up Chiefs. Inchon would score again to make it a close one however having to pull their goalie late in the third, late Jack would get the empty netter to secure the Chiefs win at 7-5.
I must say, because we play Inchon usually every month and they have been spanking us for the past 4 games in a row, this win feels really good. Good work to all those who played. Next month we'll be rotating in players who sat out(thanks to those who did) or couldn't play in this game. Got it?

The Chiefs go to Daegu..part 1

A troop of 13 (Spark, Roberts, Lexi, Darren, Tommy, Tbone, DJ, Isaiah, Rachel, MiYoung, Clark, Jimbob and Rene) took off Friday, November 17th on the KTX, destination Daegu. Saturday the troop got 4 more recruits (Joakim,t-Rowe,Craig and Jamie). Friday's pregame party was a good, but it would not be better than the "Sparky, Super Saturday, Take your pants off, Birthday Bonanza"
Before the party we would be very kindly hosted, by the home team Daegu Thunder-Birds. They put on a great event, with music, shoot to win and an amazing number of fans! I'm surprised that they didn't have a Coaches Corner!!
The game would see The Chiefs score first to hush the almost capacity crowd of 150. They would not be silent long however. The T-Birds would get on the board soon after, and the game would continue to go back and forth by one goal. A total of 9 goals would be scored but the Chiefs would loose to a score of 5-4. Goal scores for The Chiefs were, Jamie Cottin, Craig with a pair, Clark, and Lexi...almost.

Hey There Chiefs.

The Tournament, slash anniversary party will be held at the Rocky Mountain Taven this Saturday, November 11th at 6pm. There will free FOOD AND DRINKS from 6-9pm for the following people:

Any player who paid and played in the tourney. (there are 36 of ya) referee: Jeremy sands
Linesman: Roberts
Wives or girlfriends (not both..haha) of the above 38 people

Other Chiefs are more than welcome to come, as well as A friend. I will have to collect 20 000 (after 7:30pm 15 000) won from those who are not included in the 38 people above.

There will be four or five items of food to choose from and draft beer. If you are there at the right time..you may just get in on a bottle of ............. During the 6-9pm party we'll give out awards for the year, MVP of the tournament and other Chiefy surprises. Also you will get to have a look at the new jerseys. If you ask me..they look great!!

After 9 o'clock there will be no more free beer. We'll finish up the pitures we have, and then the upstairs will be opened to all and you'll be on your own dime then. And if it's anything like the past parties, you're not going to need much more.
I hope all can come out and party! Just so you know, we're working hard on canceling the next two Sunday ice times. If you would like to play Sunday the 19th, please let me know.

At a popular watering hole in Seoul, Korea, the goalies went head to head for a final shot before hitting the ice this Sunday. Only 25 minutes and the possibility of a shoot out remain, to decide who will take on the only undefeated team in the tourney. The "NemSae" Tacos.
November 5th at 11am in Mokdong! Two will go home, and one will drink from the never seen before " ? ? Cup" Who will be known as the 2006 Fall Tourney Champions ?

The Chiefs had their first skate on this day, October 19th, 2003 at 7am Sunday morning. Most had a stick, skates, mandatory helmet, and no clue if we could get another ice time.

Mayhem in Mokdong! Manglers Massively Mangled !

<----- Manglers please read. Spirits were high on Sunday morning for the opening day of the Chiefs Fall Tourney. Spirits were also at high levels on the breaths of many as they laced up! The TommyHawks seemed calm as they got ready. The Manglers were trying to get fired up with a few tunes and trying not to give up hope on their #1 pick showing up. With the TommyHawks one man short and the Manglers 2 men short, the game got underway with the drop of the puck by veteran Chief, Jeremy Sands. It was a quick paced game and the T-Hawks came out on top quicky. With a three shot warm up, Rene and his team would quicky be down with little hope of making a comeback. Tommy, did not see many shots however most of the ones he did, he made some pretty good stops. The T-Hawks got the puck out of their zone quicky and the Manglers seemed to almost enjoy keeping it in theirs.. that being said the horn went and the TommyHawks were victorious, taking game one 11-3

Game two of the Sunday double header saw The Manglers vs the Smelly Tacos. (I still don't understand that name) The Manglers were down in spirit however they came out quick in this game. They appeared warmed up and took a quick 4-0 lead. That lead would not last long. The stick of Aaron Geddes was fast, and working hard. He netted an amazing 6 goals.
This was a tough fought battle and was the best game yet in the tourney. Tom Daniel's one timer fed from Karl was a beauty! The Geddes, off the faceoff goal still haunts Rene, T-bone's broken stick (would have been in) and Jack's twisty turns were all great highlights. This game was also the most physical game so far. Let it be noted that CLAY took the first penalty. He's usually good for one, haha.
*just a note to all...the tourney does see an increase in speed. Keep your heads up.
When Sands finally called the game, it was the Manglers 7 and the Tacos 11. Guess the Manglers should have just went to 7-11 and drowned their losses.
I think most enjoyed the first day of play. Having the score clock was a really nice addition. For any who think two games is easy, it's not. But for any who think it's too much, it's not. It's still fun.

The Second Annual Vasquez Fall Tournament

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!!

With no more shinny ice times this week, The Vasquez Tourney is officially under way. The first game, scheduled for this Sunday at 9a.m., will pin the Mok-Dong Manglers against the Tomahawks. The Manglers will be sporting Blood Red as they will be the home team on Sunday. The Tomahawks will therefore be wearing Whites. Following that game the Manglers (again in Red) will face-off against the Sweaty Tacos (in White) at 1030a.m.

A few points to be noted, there have been a few changes in the game format.

1. Each game will consist of 2 thirty minutes periods (run-time) and one 5 minute overtime period. We wanted to have 3 twenty minute periods but the games would be too tight. The 2 periods will allow us 20 minutes for the Zamboni and the warm-up. So the game schedules will go as follows

Game 1

• 9:00~9:20 – Zamboni and warm-up
• 9:20~9:50 – 1^st Period
• 9:50~9:53 – 1^st Intermission
• 9:53~10:23 – 2^nd Period
• 10:23~10:25 – OT Intermission (if necessary)
• 10:25~10:30 – Overtime (if necessary)

Game 2

• 10:30~10:50 – Zamboni and warm-up
• 10:50~11:20 – 1^st Period
• 11:20~11:23 – 1^st Intermission
• 11:23~11:53 – 2^nd Period
• 11:53~11:55 – OT Intermission (if necessary)
• 11:55~12:00 – Overtime (if necessary)

2. There will be NO RED LINE which means that two line passes will be allowed.

3. All the other rules that apply to normal games will apply here.

4. We are asking that every team has a captain and two assistants because we don’t want everyone talking/screaming at Jeremy. It’s not official or anything but we want to give Jeremy the power to kick people out of the game if they abuse him verbally.

5. Fighting gets you kicked out of the tourney

A Tamer Sunday (short but sweet)

A Tamer Sunday.

Last skate was much tamer than the injury riddled shinny session of Sunday past. We had 5 on each bench and two goalies at each end. It was fairly typical with Aaron shooting and scoring, jack twisting and turning, me shouting idiotic sentences but wait what’s this? J for three? Big D for three? That's right! A couple of surprising hat tricks that caped off another high scoring ‘defense-less’ affair. Rene and Ryan both played well considering the lack of defense but I’m sure Ryan can’t wait for all our goalies to get back to the Lands of Morning Calm so he can get bact to whizzing pucks next to their heads.

All in all, it was nice to see that we are no longer hurting for numbers.

The Essence of Vasquez

Smell that? That! What is that?

There’s something lingering in the cold Mok-Dong air. It’s called Essence of the Vasquez; a twinge of hard-hitting with a speck of bone crushing pre-tournament sweat. Last Sunday was a fast paced, hard fought affair that may have some major repercussions on the Vasquez Tournament.

We had quite a few new faces join the Chiefs and many older Chiefheads making renewed appearances to shed that summertime rust and get geared up for the tourney. By the time I arrived we had over 20 players already suited up and ready to hit the ice. Only one problem, we only had one goalie. A quick glance around the room and quite a few head shakes later a consensus was found. Well actually it more like walked in the locker room: Ryan. A quick trip to the locker, a few smacks to dust off the pads and voila: a goalie we make- and what a goalie at that. Ryan had his best game as a Chief. He made sprawling save after glove save. He even had the ‘St. Patty Wink’ down packed. All to say, Ryan won the goalie comp and...the Elvis suit.

Outside the crease, we had 6 subs for the whites and 7 for the darks. All these able bodies made for some high paced hockey and brought up the intensity level to overblown proportions as we had more than a few collisions. The worst of which came in the last 20 minutes of play when Marc Roberts went one on one against Aaron Alinson. It was a hard hit heard through the rafters. Marc skated down the left wing and, as soon as he crossed the blue line, tried his patented "Roberts Shake and Cut". Having played against him more than twice and expecting the "Shake and Cut", Aaron reached for a poke check but ended up crashing right into Marc who had his head down. Marc took the brunt of that collision and is now doubtful for the tourney. The Chiefs doctors had a look at him and discovered what may be a cracked rib, his third. If the rib is actually cracked Marc will be out for at least the next 4 weeks which puts the Tommy-Hawks one Dman down. Darren also went down after feeling the effects of an Aaron Geddes shot to the thigh. He took a few shifts off but came back late in the game and should be ready for the tourney.
